On 5 April 2017, Canonical announced that it would stop development of Ubuntu Touch. Later that month, development was taken over by the UBports community, which continued maintaining and developing the operating system.

Hardware layer
[edit | edit source]Many Ubuntu Touch ports use Halium, which allows the system to reuse parts of Android hardware support. UBports documentation lists Halium versions connected to Android versions from 7.1 through 13.0. Since Ubuntu Touch 20.04, most ports are normally based on Halium 9.0 or later.
Apps
[edit | edit source]Ubuntu Touch uses the OpenStore as its app store. OpenStore is community-run and is installed by default on UBports builds.
